Meet the Self Made Man. The larger version based on the maquette work I posted earlier. This dude still isn't finished and probable never will be, but still his head came out sweet.

i'm so envious of your mastery of the human anatomy, musculature, bone structure, this piece i think is easier to see with the material you used, the veiny-ness and the muscles bulging through the skin, you've even given the skin a sense of thickness and density. Just like how in the real world skin is semi transparent, we can see our veins just look in the lower right hand corner and I get this sense that you've captured that essence! and on his shoulder as well. The facial expresion is just eye-capturing. Amazing detail!

thanks! have you ever heard of the Gnomon Workshop? I've been wanting to get some of their tutorial dvd's just to have them when I get time I can have something to practice along with.

No I haven't but thank you for telling me about them. All I have a beginner maya dvd tut from Lynda.com (came highly reccomended from the chair of the digital arts program at CIA.) I'm actually in the process of applying to grad school to learn 3d animation and all of that visual effects jazz.

wow, i'm just self taught with demo and LE and PLE versions of Maya, Lightwave, and Gmax. I learned lightwave layout simply through the editors that came with Unreal Tournament 2004 haha! oh and I bought milkshape 3d, nifty program for studying models of all the great pc games! I'm starting to render fractal animations i've been coming up with. My biggest personal goal is to start an animated series for this story i've written, and make a complete CG on par with Blender's Orange movie... it was really interesting. My novel haha, is pretty dark, and symbolic.
